We've still got 3 great stories to go for the 2012 SG-1 Big Bang, but I wanted to pause in the fun for just a moment to announce that this is the last year [personal profile] melayneseahawk and I will be running the SG-1 Big Bang. It's been great fun, but sadly our responsibilities are pulling us elsewhere and we can no longer give the appropriate amount of attention to running the SG-1 Big Bang.

As such: We're looking for new moderators!

If you think you have the time to devote to running the SG-1 Big Bang, please reply here or PM me. I'm planning to hand over ownership of the DW and LJ comms, the related email address for coordination, and any relevant files, which will provide the new moderators with a lot of organizational information and timelines for how the previous big bangs have run.

Hopefully we'll find someone enthusiastic to take over so we can keep sending SG-1 on adventures for many big bangs to come.

For the artists, vidders, and fanmixers who are returning, claims are running a little differently this year. Instead of having a first-come, first-served claiming in which we cross out claims throughout the day, we’ll be asking all of our media contributors to fill out a claim form, selecting between 2 and 6 stories you’re interested in working on. After that, the moderators will go over the lists—doing our best to give you your first or second choice—and assuring each story has at least one claim (and hopefully at least one artist or vidder).

The biggest reason for this change is that your moderators are busier this April than they have been in the past and doing the constant updates isn’t an option this year.

Here’s the run down of what to expect on April 9. )

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Last Chance for April Claiming
If your name does not appear on this list and your rough draft* is finished but you totally flaked on the date (or an email ate your submission), you have one final chance to be included in the April 9 claiming. Your rough draft must be submitted today, April 1, by the end of the day.

Amnesty Week
If you cannot make the date for April claiming, we encourage you to keep writing for Amnesty Week. If there are enough interested authors and available artists/vidders/fanmixers, we will have a second claiming in June. Please let us know if you might be interested in that.

*Reminder "rough draft" is defined as approximately 18K with outline or scene descriptions of any plot holes or the ending. The rough draft is (1) an agreement with the mods that you will complete your story for final posting and (2) used to get the media contributor(s) started on your work. You may and are encouraged to send your media contributor(s) a revised draft.

Today is the last day to request an extension. If you don’t think you’ll be sending in a rough draft by the end of tomorrow, I urge you to send an email to stargatesummer[at]gmail[dot]com or PM theemdash today. Even if you’ve only written 10K, it’s worth your time to talk to me about your situation. Please read the details about requesting an extension and amnesty week before emailing.

Rough Draft Reminder
Rough drafts are due by the end of the day Saturday, March 31. For those who need an exact time or a ticker of doom, there's a count down clock in the user-info at [community profile] sos_lounge.

When submitting your rough draft by email to stargatesummer[at]gmail[dot]com, please make sure you follow the posted guidelines. Doing so will save us both a headache.

As a reminder, we are looking for rough drafts to be at least 18K, however that number is flexible so long as you communicate with us. In short, if you are having difficulty—email us.

If your story is not completely written, it must have scene summaries or an outline that fills in the holes. Perhaps you would like an example )

I'm looking forward to receiving your rough draft!

And if you haven't signed up already, what are you waiting for?

If you haven't signed up for [community profile] stargate_summer as a writer, but are considering it, there are still options for you to participate!

    1. Extensions are now available!
Extensions are ONLY granted upon request prior to March 31 and only give you about one week extra. To request an extension, PM theemdash or email stargatesummer[at]gmail[dot]com, and include your current word count and expected word count upon completion.

    2. Amnesty Week is back!
Authors who miss the rough draft deadline are encouraged to continue writing and participate during Amnesty Week. Provided there are artists, vidders, or fanmixers available, we'll have a claim period in June with a draft deadline a few days before (dates TBD). Regardless of participation in the June claims, all authors who sign up are allowed to post during Amnesty Week.

Additionally we’d like to remind you:

Rough drafts are accepted by email until March 31. Details about formatting and what is required are available at [community profile] stargate_summer. I urge you to follow these guidelines because happy mods are helpful mods. :)

We are looking for rough drafts to be at least 18K and 80% of your completed story, however that number is flexible so long as you communicate with us. (Read as: do not send 15K on March 31 and expect everything to be fine.)

If you’re having trouble writing your blurb/summary, make sure you sign up, and we can help you at the [community profile] sos_lounge blurb post.

8 days until rough drafts are due!

This year, instead of offering authors cheerleader support, we’re looking for readers to preview author-selected snippets. You could be one of those readers!

Each participating author will post a snippet up to 5,000 words at the member’s only [community profile] sos_lounge and will list the kinds of comments they’re looking for—anything from general enthusiastic squee (to keep their energies up) to comments on characterization or plot (no line editing). All you have to do is read and comment.

You will not be required to read every selection posted, but please make sure you comment on everything you read. This is an opportunity for authors to receive feedback to help in drafting their work, along with a chance for you to preview the stories and help out an author. That warm fuzzy feeling you’ve been longing for? This is a way to get it.
